VINTAGE NOTES
Significant rain in December and relatively dry, mild conditions through March created an early bud break. Alternating periods of warm and cool weather after March led to steady summer conditions that prevailed until the first week of September when temperatures rose significantly. Cooler weather after the heat spell allowed our hillside and south valley vineyards to recover from the heat and were harvested in great condition. Overall quality is excellent with wines showing a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors.
VINEYARD SOURCES
Known as the “Napa Redwoods”, Mount Veeder is in the southern end of the Mayacamas mountains just west of the town of Napa.  The appellation reaches up to over 2,500 feet with many vineyards located on steep hillsides surrounded by forest. The dense forest, high altitude vineyards and proximity to San Pablo Bay combine to make this a cool growing region with a long growing season.  Grapes for this wine came primarily from the steep, central part of Mount Veeder AVA.
WINEMAKER NOTES
For the 2022 vintage, our winemakers blended 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. Fermented in 75% French oak, 30% new and 70% two and three-year-old barriques and 25% in stainless steel tanks, this wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak, 30% new and 70% two and three-year-old barriques.
NOSE: Pure aromas of cassis, black cherry and black plum accented by notes of anise, dark earth and nutmeg
PALATE: Medium full bodied, broad, rich flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, cocoa and cedar enhanced by a classic structure for aging
