VINTAGE NOTES
Significant rain in December and relatively dry, mild conditions through March created an early bud break. Alternating periods of warm and cool weather after March led to steady summer conditions that prevailed until the first week of September when temperatures rose significantly. Cooler weather after the heat spell allowed our hillside and south valley vineyards to recover from the heat and were harvested in great condition. Overall quality is excellent with wines showing a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors.

VINEYARD SOURCES
Spring Mountain District Proprietary Red reveals the diversity of terroir and quality of one of Napa Valley’s truly unique AVA’s. Straddling the northern and eastern slopes of the Mayacamas directly behind the town of St. Helena, the vineyards of Spring Mountain reach 2,200 feet in elevation and feature a variety of different aspects with a mix volcanic and sedimentary soils. In the summer, the morning sun reaches many of these vineyards above the fog line that helps insure ripe grapes. Working with vineyards in the southern and eastern parts of Spring Mountain provides an excellent contrast of flavors for our winemakers to work with.

WINEMAKER NOTES
Our winemakers blended 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec to create this classic example of mountain grown wine. The wine was fermented in 50% French oak, 40% new and 60% two and three-year old-barriques and 50% in stainless steel tanks followed by aging for 16 months in 50% new French oak barriques.

NOSE: Powerful aromas of black cherry and cassis are mixed with notes of gravel, tobacco, cedar and purple flowers.
PALATE: Full bodied deep flavors of cherry, plum and blueberry are accented by roasted nuts, dark earth and coffee with a firm, structured finish.
