Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Napa Valley 2023

VINTAGE NOTES
2023 is an exceptional vintage marked by one of the longest growing seasons in over a decade. Significant winter rains followed by a warm dry spring supported healthy canopy growth through bloom. Cooler weather prevailed throughout the rest of the growing season aided by abundant sunshine that enabled grapes to ripen slowly and reach perfect maturity. The long growing season and extended “hang time” for grapes has produced wines with stunning, complex flavors and the structure for long term aging.

VINEYARD SOURCES
Home to some of Napa Valley’s most renowned vineyards, Oakville was originally a water refueling stop for the railroad that connected Vallejo to Calistoga, Oakville was named for its dense groves of valley oaks. Situated in the heart of Napa Valley, Oakville has an extraordinary contrast of warm days and cool evenings. One of the wider valley floor appellations, the deep, rich soils on the west side near Highway 29 give way to rockier, volcanic soils on the east side near Silverado Trail. In 2023, we used grapes primarily from the eastern side of Oakville AVA.

WINEMAKING
The 2023 vintage is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. This wine was 75% barrel fermented in 75% new French oak barriques and 25% in stainless steel tanks and then aged for eighteen months in 35% new French oak barriques.

TASTING NOTES
SIGHT: Deep to opaque ruby red
NOSE: Powerful aromas of black cherry preserves, blackberry and plum enhanced by notes of oregano, cumin, purple flowers and savory spices
PALATE: Medium full bodied, rich flavors of blackberry and plum along with tobacco, anise and black pepper
