“The full-bodied palate has a lively backbone and grainy tannins framing the muscular baked black fruits flavors, finishing with a spicy lift.”  Lisa Perotti-Brown – Wine Independent Significant rain in December and relatively dry, mild conditions through March created an early bud break and led to steady summer conditions until the first week of September when temperatures rose significantly. Cooler weather after the heat spell allowed our hillside and south valley vineyards to recover and were harvested in great condition. Overall quality is excellent with wines showing a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors. In 2022, grapes from our Cordes and Stricker Vineyards were superlative and form the backbone of this vintage. A celebrated, pioneering viticulturist, Joseph Osborne planted some of Napa Valley’s first vinifera varieties on his Oak Knoll Ranch in the 1850’s, just north of the town of Napa. A valley floor appellation, Oak Knoll’s alluvial fans and cooling influences from nearby San Pablo Bay provide ideal growing conditions for all five Bordeaux varieties. Introducing the 2022 Proprietary Red from Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District. This expertly crafted blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot captures the unique terroir of one of Napa’s cooler AVAs. Aged in French oak for 18 months, it boasts vibrant aromas of cassis, plum, and cherry, with a palate of ripe cherry, cassis, and subtle hints of oregano and cedar. A bold yet balanced wine, perfect for any occasion.
