Robin Baggett of Alpha Omega Elected Treasurer of the Wine Institute Board of Directors
As reported by Bill Swindell in The Press Democrat, June 27, 2022.
We are proud to share that Robin Baggett, co-founder and vintner of Alpha Omega Winery, has been elected Treasurer of the Wine Institute Board of Directors. This recognition reflects not only Robin’s deep commitment to Alpha Omega and the Napa Valley community, but also his dedication to the broader California wine industry.
Robin Baggett Joins Wine Institute Leadership
The Wine Institute is California’s leading wine trade organization. It represents wineries and wine-related businesses statewide and plays an active role in shaping public policy at both the state and federal level. Election to its board is a meaningful distinction, reserved for those who have demonstrated sustained leadership and a genuine investment in the future of California wine.
Robin joins a distinguished class of newly elected officers. Rick Tigner of Jackson Family Wines was elected board chairman. Randall Lange of LangeTwins Family Vineyards and Winery was named first vice chairman. Matt Gallo of E. & J. Gallo Winery was elected second vice chairman. Alex Ryan of The Duckhorn Portfolio was named secretary.
Together, these leaders represent some of California’s most respected wine families and institutions. Robin’s appointment as treasurer places Alpha Omega among that company, a reflection of the winery’s stature within the industry and the respect Robin has earned across the California wine community.
Leadership Rooted in the Land and the Community
For Robin and Michelle Baggett, leadership has never been separate from purpose. Since founding Alpha Omega in 2006, they have cultivated a winery rooted in craft, community, and a profound respect for the Rutherford Bench and the wider Napa Valley. That same spirit of stewardship now extends to the state level through Robin’s role at the Wine Institute.
The organization’s mission, to advance sustainable and extraordinary winemaking across California, aligns naturally with the values Alpha Omega has built its reputation upon. Alpha Omega is Napa Green certified for both land and winery practices, operates almost entirely on solar power, and farms its estate vineyards with a deep sense of responsibility to the soil, the watershed, and the generations of winegrowers who will follow.
These are not simply operational choices. They reflect a vision of California wine that Robin now helps shape at the industry’s highest level.
Giving Back to Napa Valley and Beyond
Robin’s Wine Institute appointment is one expression of a larger commitment to service that defines how the Baggetts approach their role in this valley. From their annual Toy Drive, which has collected more than 1,800 toys for Napa families since 2017, to their support of the V Foundation Wine Celebration for cancer research and Festival Napa Valley’s performing arts education programs, giving back is woven into the fabric of Alpha Omega. Industry leadership and community stewardship, for the Baggetts, these are not separate callings. They are two expressions of the same values.
A Family-Owned Winery, a Valley-Wide Perspective
Alpha Omega remains a boutique, family-owned winery at its core. Handcrafted wines from the Rutherford AVA estate and from celebrated vineyard sites across Napa Valley, including Beckstoffer To Kalon in Oakville, Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford, and high-altitude sites on Atlas Peak and Mount Veeder, define the portfolio. Head Winemaker Melissa Paris and Consulting Winemaker Andy Erickson tend each wine with a terroir-specific precision that begins in the vineyard and extends through every decision in the cellar.
That commitment to place and craft is what Robin carries with him into the Wine Institute boardroom. California wine’s future, as the Institute’s incoming officers noted, is indeed bright. Alpha Omega is proud to help shape it.
