Robin Baggett Elected Vice Chair of the Land Trust of Napa County

Alpha Omega founder and vintner Robin Baggett has been elected vice chair of the Land Trust of Napa County, as reported by the North Bay Business Journal on April 21, 2022. The appointment reflects a deepening commitment to preserving what makes Napa Valley irreplaceable: its land.

The Land Trust of Napa County works to acquire and protect the open spaces, agricultural lands, and natural habitats that define the valley’s character. For Robin, joining its board as vice chair is not simply a professional honor. It is a natural extension of the values that have guided Alpha Omega since its founding in 2006.

Rooted in the Land, Dedicated to Its Future

At Alpha Omega, the land is never an abstraction. Every bottle begins in a specific place: a rocky amphitheater on Atlas Peak, the iron-rich volcanic soils of Mount Veeder, the deep alluvial benchland of Rutherford. These are living landscapes, and their preservation matters as much to the wines as the winemaking itself.

Robin’s election to the Land Trust board is a direct reflection of that belief. Furthermore, it builds on Alpha Omega’s already-established record as a Napa Green certified winery and vineyard, one of Napa Valley’s most rigorous designations for sustainable land and winery stewardship. The winery operates almost entirely on solar power. Farming practices across Alpha Omega’s estate and partner vineyards are guided by a commitment to the long view, to the health of the soil, the watershed, and the ecosystems that make these wines possible.

As a vintner and a rancher, Robin understands the relationship between land and legacy in a way that is deeply personal. The vineyards he tends today are the same landscapes he hopes to leave intact for future generations.

A Board Assembled Around Shared Purpose

The newly elected board reflects a breadth of expertise brought together around a single purpose: protecting Napa Valley’s most precious resource. Bill Nemerever, former investment manager and small winery owner, was elected board president. Mike Fisher, wine business advisor and founding partner of Global Wine Partners LLC, joins as treasurer. Malcolm Mackenzie, senior partner with Coombs and Dunlap LLP in Napa, returns for a second term as secretary.

Robin brings to this group both his perspective as a vintner who sources fruit from across Napa Valley’s diverse sub-appellations and his experience as a community leader. In addition to his work with the Land Trust, he serves as chairman of the Wine Institute Board. His honorary chairmanship of Auction Napa Valley in 2025, alongside Michelle Baggett, helped raise $6.5 million for the Napa Valley Vintners Youth Wellness Initiative. These are not separate commitments. They are different expressions of the same conviction: that Napa Valley’s future depends on the people who care for it most.

Stewardship and the Wines It Makes Possible

It is worth pausing to consider what land preservation means in a glass of wine. The 2022 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from rocky volcanic soils at nearly 2,000 feet in the Vaca Mountains, could not exist anywhere else. Neither could the Mount Veeder Cabernet, shaped by dense forest, high altitude, and the long growing season that the proximity of San Pablo Bay makes possible. These wines are, in every real sense, products of their land.

Head Winemaker Melissa Paris describes the Atlas Peak Cabernet as “poised and powerfully ripe, capturing this high altitude, volcanic soil laden region’s personality: well defined fruit, graphite and a vibrant personality.” Of the Mount Veeder, she says: “The extreme growing conditions of Mt. Veeder push vines to their limits and the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon displays the reward: intense fruit, mountain spice and unwavering focus.”

These wines exist because the land that produces them has been tended, protected, and respected. Robin’s role with the Land Trust of Napa County is a commitment to ensuring that remains true. Giving Back Is Part of Who We Are

At Alpha Omega, philanthropy is not a program. It is simply how Robin and Michelle Baggett move through the world. From the annual Season of Giving Toy Drive, which has collected over 1,800 toys since 2017, to their support of the V Foundation Wine Celebration for cancer research and Festival Napa Valley’s performing arts education work, the Baggetts give because the community has given to them. Robin’s new role with the Land Trust is another chapter in that story.
