Vintners Robin and Michelle Baggett Unveil Alpha Omega Collective

RUTHERFORD, Calif. — March 5, 2018

Robin and Michelle Baggett have spent three decades building wineries rooted in place. Napa Valley. San Luis Obispo. And now, the ancient slate soils of Spain’s Priorat. On March 5, 2018, they brought all three together under a single name.

The Alpha Omega Collective is the new umbrella brand for Alpha Omega, Tolosa and Perinet. Three wineries. Three regions. One collective vision.

Why Now, and Why This Name

The timing of the launch was deliberate. After acquiring a significant interest in Perinet in the summer of 2017, Robin and Michelle Baggett found themselves with three distinct wine identities that shared a common thread: an uncompromising commitment to place, craft and direct relationships with wine lovers.

Bringing them under one name made sense. Choosing the right name was just as important.

“After my wife, Michelle, and I purchased a sizeable interest in Perinet last summer, we knew it was time to bring all our wine labels under a single brand name. As we expand our vision as vintners, we are looking to follow the model of impeccable hospitality and singular wines established by our flagship brand, Alpha Omega. From there, it was natural to call our master brand the Alpha Omega Collective.”

The Alpha Omega Collective also replaces Tolosa Direct as the direct-to-trade wholesale component for all three wineries. The team remains the same.

Three Wineries, Three Worlds

Alpha Omega — Rutherford Bench, Napa Valley

Alpha Omega is the flagship. Sitting on Napa Valley’s legendary Rutherford Bench, the winery farms prized grapes from its own vineyards and from some of the most historically significant sites in the valley, including:

  • 1155 Vineyard, Thomas Vineyard and Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford
  • Drew Vineyard in Mt. Veeder
  • Sunshine Valley in Oak Knoll District
  • Beckstoffer To Kalon in Oakville
  • Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Beckstoffer Las Piedras in St. Helena
  • Stagecoach in Atlas Peak

Winemaker Jean Hoefliger and consulting winemaker Michel Rolland blend fruit from nearly every appellation in the valley, bringing complexity, depth and aromatic richness to Bordeaux-inspired releases that have earned critical acclaim and a devoted following worldwide.

Tolosa — Edna Valley, San Luis Obispo

Tolosa was Robin Baggett’s first winery, established in 1998. It sits in Edna Valley, California’s coolest appellation and its closest to the ocean, at an average distance of just five miles from the Pacific coast.

The cold Pacific wind sweeps down through the hills of San Luis Obispo County and into the valley, creating a microclimate ideal for ripening sensitive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The soils here are extraordinary: remnants of volcanic eruptions, calcium-rich sediments from ancient ocean floors and, the holy grail for Pinot Noir, limestone. Winemaker Frederic Delivert handcrafts wines from this landscape that are nuanced, complex and balanced.

Perinet — Priorat DOQ, Catalonia, Spain

The creation of the Alpha Omega Collective also marks the official U.S. launch of Perinet, the jewel of Spain’s prestigious Priorat region, one of only two DOQ appellations in the country alongside Rioja.

Located 90 minutes southwest of Barcelona in Catalonia, Perinet’s estate vineyard and architecturally designed winery sit on picturesque terraced slopes. The winery specializes in ultra-premium Grenache and Carignan alongside international varietals, producing deep, concentrated wines with structure and balance that reflect the ancient slate soils of the Priorat.

Jean Hoefliger serves as consulting winemaker at Perinet, working alongside resident winemaker Toni Sanchez-Ortiz.

One Collective, Three Personalities

What unites these three wineries is not uniformity. It is a shared set of values: deep regional roots, the influence of the sea and rock-laden soils, and a commitment to producing world-class wine with a distinctive sense of place.

As the Alpha Omega Collective’s founding statement puts it: the individual personalities are unmistakable, but the Collective stands as one.
